What are Dolch Sight Words?
The Dolch sight word list was created by Dr. Edward William Dolch. The Dolch Sight Word lists are divided into six lists: pre-k, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade, and nouns.
What are high frequency words?
High frequency words are defined as words that appear most often in print.
Most sight words are high frequency words as well, and sometimes the definition of sight words and high frequency words are used interchangeably.

What list should 3rd grade students work on?
I always suggest that students be tested on each sight word list instead of focusing on one specific Dolch word list.
For example, if you are teaching the Dolch sight wight word list, print a copy of the primer, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade list.
Then have your child read the words and highlight any words that the child misses.
Last, compile all of the Dolch words that were missed into one list.
If your child needs to practice the 2nd grade sight words, here is the Second Grade Practice Worksheets.
Includes all of the words on the Second Grade Dolch List.
How can children practice sight words?
Read children's books and use highlighter tape to find the sight words.
Use flash cards to put sight words in alphabetical order.
Play sight word games in small groups.
What are some fun activities for children to work on?
Use 3rd grade sight words to make fun games such as:
Sight Word Bingo
Sight Word Memory
Sight Word Lego- write letters on legos or blocks with a washable marker (or tape on using post-it notes) and have third graders build the words.
Sight Word Stories- make funny stories and build language skills by writing stories using sight words.
Tips to teaching high-frequency words:
Use a 3rd grade sight word program that teaches children reading skills as well as spelling skills.
Sight word activities should allow children different ways to practice their skills to achieve mastery in reading and spelling sight words.
